Los Angeles, CA – Lupus LA, along with media sponsors LA Confidential and Gotham Magazine presented the second annual "Hollywood Bag Ladies Luncheon" which raised over $120,000 for the Lupus Research Institute. The luncheon, held on November 10th at the Beverly Hills Hotel, was co-chaired by Noah Alexander, Peri Ellen Berne, Carrie Brillstein, Marla Paxson and Julia van Hees. The event featured a silent auction of new, gently used and vintage handbags donated by celebrities including Jennifer Aniston, Selma Blair, Courtney Cox-Arquette, Patricia Heaton, Anjelica Hston, Scarlett Johansson, Bai Ling, Reba McEntire, Julia Roberts and KaDee Strickland. Many top designers also donated handbags, including Bulgari, Burberry, Carolina Herrera, Fendi, Gucci, Michael Kors and Prada. The luncheon included a La Perla Fashion Show, which featured their current line of lingerie and cruise wear. The models were adorned with exquisite jewels of Geary's Beverly Hills.
Lupus LA was proud to honor their very own Carol Weisman, who is the epitome of style, grace, sophistication and humanity. As a founding member and co-chair of Lupus LA, they recognized Carol for her spirit and commitment to Lupus research and her endless efforts in finding a cure.
Accomplished author and jewelry designer, Cristina Ferrare, was the poignant and funny guest speaker. The author of four books, one on the New York Times bestsellers list, Cristina is an expert in the area of women's health and well being, as well as the culinary arts and design. In 2000, Cristina, along with her mother, created the elegant and popular jewelry line 'Cristina Ferrare Collection'.
Lupus LA was formed five years ago by Daniel J. Wallace MD, one of the country's prominent Lupus specialists, to raise funds for Lupus research through the Lupus Research Institute. Lupus is one of the country's most prevalent, unpredictable and potentially fatal diseases. This autoimmune disease that affects over two million Americans is very difficult to diagnose and there is no cure.
