November 4, 2011
On Friday, November 4th, 400 women braved the first rain storm of the season to attend Lupus LA’s 9th Annual Hollywood Bag Ladies Luncheon in Beverly Hills. They were there to show their support and bid on the hottest handbags of the season, donated by top designers like Prada, Chanel and Judith Lieber and mega celebrities like Jennifer Aniston, Natalie Portman and Sharon Stone. The event raised $246,000 in the fight against lupus — and did even more to raise awareness for the cause!
Honored at the popular event were two dynamic “Women of Achievement” — a tremendous supporter of Lupus LA, Co-founder and Executive Producer of Entertainment Studios Carolyn Folks and Fox TV news anchor and 16-time Emmy Award winner Christine Devine. Special thanks to Byron Allan, Co-Founder, Chairman and CEO of Entertainment Studios, who presented Carolyn Folks (who also happens to be his mom) with the award and continues to support the cause. Lupus LA’s new Executive Director Matt Durkan welcomed the crowd and spoke of the exciting new research and treatment breakthroughs for lupus in 2011, and the need for sustained support for Lupus LA so it can continue to help those affected by lupus as we search for a cure. The event was hosted by television personality, style expert and author Lawrence Zarian who made a special tribute to his father who recently passed away.
Model Joanna Krupa and her sister Marta, Meredith Monroe, Krista Ayne, Kat Kramer, Suzanne Sena, and Gloria Allred walked the carpet and were among the crowd bidding on handbags.
Many thanks to Lupus LA’s dedicated supporters who attended the Hollywood Bag Ladies Luncheon at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel and bid on over 200 hundred handbags in the silent auction and a live auction that offered exclusive packages like a trip to Fashion Week in New York! Special gratitude to our event sponsors Anonymous, M.L. Shank Company, Inc. and our fashion show sponsor Neiman Marcus. Thanks to their support, a cure for lupus… is in the bag!
